In a Tuesday joint statement with the National Football League, Amazon said that it would stream the first-ever Black Friday NFL game in November 2023.
The contest, which will start at 3 p.m. ET on November 24, 2023, is the first NFL match to occur on the day following Thanksgiving, which is already a significant day for NFL games. Along with the other matchups on the NFL schedule for the upcoming season, the teams for the Black Friday game will be revealed.
The game’s announcement coincides with the major sale holiday for brick-and-mortar businesses, and it may cause customers to turn to Amazon instead of physical stores. On both Black Friday and Cyber Monday of that holiday weekend, Amazon offers online discounts.
According to Jay Marine, Global Head of Sports at Prime Video, “Black Friday is the unofficial start of the holiday season, and we’re happy to kick it off with a gift for football lovers throughout the nation with our new game.”
Even without an NFL game, Black Friday this year is already predicted to perform worse than in years past. This weakness, which has been gaining strength as retailers widely disperse discounts across the holiday season, may be made worse by Amazon’s approach.
The “Thursday Night Football” show on Amazon, which started this year and has an average of 10.8 million weekly viewers, was praised in the announcement. According to Tuesday’s report, that audience is 48% larger than “Thursday Night Footballaudience “‘s in 2021.
