Samsung this week launched the first 24Gbps GDDR6 Memory that is designed to meet JEDEC requirements and is compatible with all GPU designs. The new 24Gbps GDDR6 memory from Samsung also has low power options that help extend the laptop’s battery life, as well as dynamic voltage switching (DVS) technology that adjusts the operating voltage depending on the operating conditions. Samsung will offer 20 Gbps and 16 Gbps models with about 20% more power at 1.1 V, compared to the industry standard of 1.35 V GDDR6.

“The explosion of data that is now being driven by AI and this change is creating a need for better imaging technology that can process large amounts of data at once, very quickly,” said Daniel Lee, senior vice president of the Memory Product Planning Team at Samsung. When GDDR6 DRAM is combined with a card camera, it can transfer up to 1.1 terabytes (TB) of data, or about 275 Full HD videos, in just one second.
“DRAM graphics are in high demand for applications beyond PCs, laptops and gaming consoles, and into other high-end applications such as HPC, autonomous driving and electric vehicles. Speaking to these emerging markets, Samsung’s GDDR6 will support 4K and 8K video playback, while contributing to the proliferation of AI.
