After two rounds, here’s what we know about this year’s British Open in St. Andrews: The Old Course doesn’t show the teeth it has in years past. The numbers have been low, with leader Cameron Smith recording the lowest course to match the Open’s 150-year history. And with conditions expected to improve this weekend, it is unlikely that the weather will play a major role in this week’s races.
Cameron Young, the first round leader, is still in the mix behind Smith. Rory McIlroy, still searching for his next major after a drought that now ends at nearly eight years, is in the hunt, as is Viktor Hovland. Dustin Johnson, who caused a lot of trouble when he made the jump from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf, is once again out of the lead after two rounds. There is still a lot of golf left to be played, but many of the players are already preparing to pay for the Claret Jug.
