Here are some of the stories we will be following today as they headline Southwest Virginia:

  • More than 700 MINI Coopers and more than 2,000 MINI Cooper owners will be at the Berglund Center for Mini Takes the States Rise and Rally. Held from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm The conference is sponsored by the Best Friends Animal Society which is committed to eradicating dogs and cats lurking in American zoos by 2025.

  • The Bradley Free Clinic will have a grand opening for its new Robertson Behavioral Health wings. The country will play a key role in meeting the social needs of the community. The cutting of the ribbon will begin at 11:00 am and will even end until 1:00 pm.

  • The Roanoke Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a meeting at 1:00 pm in the city hall where they will discuss a number of applications including a special Crystal Spring Avenue SW request for the establishment of a restaurant and bar.

  • The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors will meet at 5:00 pm where it will meet in a closed session to discuss potential candidates for any of the vacancies or positions that are about to open.

  • The Roanoke City Gun Violence Prevention Commission will hold a meeting at 5:45 pm

  • Route 760, Diuguids Lane, in Roanoke County will be closed due to traffic congestion over the next few weeks. This closure entries into the Roanoke River crossing at the Salem city border near the intersection of Route 760 and Route 639 West Riverside Drive. Normally closed for 45 days, vehicles can be diverted using West Riverside Drive and Mill Lane. However, there will be several three-day intervals where a large crane will be used to close the intersection of Route 760 and Route 639. In those days, drivers will need to use Creekside Drive and Lilly Drive to get off. Bridge upgrades are expected to be completed in Fall.
