Dr. Anthony Fauci, America’s foremost authority on infectious diseases, will retire at the end of this year as the United States’ advisor to President Joe Biden and as the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

“I’m announcing today that I’ll be leaving my roles as chief of the NIAID Laboratory of Immunoregulation, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and chief medical advisor to President Joe Biden. In order to follow the next phase of my career, I will be leaving these posts in December of this year” explained Fauci.

While in this position, Fauci, 81, helped lead the US response to such epidemics as HIV/AIDS, anthrax attacks, pandemic flu, bird flu outbreaks, Ebola, and Zika. Fauci has been with NIAID for 38 years, beginning with Ronald Reagan’s administration. During the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020, he became one of the most well-known federal spokespersons.

Biden praised Fauci’s work and praised his “unwavering” dedication to the project, as well as his “unparalleled spirit, vitality, and scientific integrity.”

“Numerous lives have been saved both in the United States and other parts of the world as a result of Dr. Fauci’s numerous contributions to public health. I am confident that Dr. Fauci’s skill will continue to serve the American people and the entire globe in whatever he does after leaving his post in the U.S. Government “said Biden.

Added Biden “Whether or not you have personally interacted with him, his work has had a profound impact on all Americans. He has my sincere gratitude for his public service. Because of him, the United States of America is more powerful, robust, and healthy.”

Dr. Fauci is not giving up his work. Instead, he plans to help guide the next generation of scientific leaders as they help prepare the world to meet future infectious disease challenges.

Fauci disagreed with President Trump on what to do about the epidemic, what message to tell the American people, and how to prevent the epidemic from worsening.

But when things between them were at their lowest, Trump made a comment about maybe dismissing the physician. Trump’s allies attacked, which increased Fauci’s security.

In 2020, Fauci informed CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta that he needed security protection since his family had been harassed and threatened with death.

Last month, Fauci told CNN that political forces had no influence on his decision to finally resign from his position.

“Nothing about it has to do with pressures, with the other crap you hear about, with the jabs, slings, and arrows. That doesn’t affect me in any way “he said.
