NASA’s largest telescope has begun sending images from space with better precision and infrared clarity compared to the Hubble Space Telescope. The new James Webb Space Telescope was launched in December 2021 on the Ariane 5 rocket and the first images released this week by NASA give a glimpse of what a telescope can do.

The telescope has been in existence for only one week and features an original glass with 18 layers of beryllium gold-plated glass that combines to form a 6.5-meter (21 ft) large glass. Compared with the Hubble glass 2.4 m (7.9 ft) the James Webb Space Telescope’s light bulb is almost seven times the size of about 25 square meters.

The glass has a gold coating to reflect infrared light and this is coated with a thin glass for durability. ”
