Charlbi Dean, an actress whose star was just beginning to rise after starring in Palme d’Or winner “Triangle of Sadness,” has died, according to a representative for the actress. She was 32.

According to the representative, Dean died suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday. However, he did not provide any further details.

Charlbi Dean Kriek, sometimes credited as Dean, was originally from South Africa and a model.

Her first credited film role was in 2010’s “Spud” alongside Troye Sivan and John Cleese. She later had many film roles, as well as a recurring role on CW’s Black Lightning as the character Syonide. Dean’s role in “Triangle of Sadness” was her biggest yet, and her biggest ever following the film’s positive reception at Cannes. In the movie, Dean played one half of a celebrity couple who embarks on a luxury cruise which eventually goes wrong. Following the film’s win at the festival, Dean wrote on Instagram, ‘Congratulations, our family! We did it!’ to Ruben Östlund, and in response the director, ‘You’re the GOAT. I’m forever thankful for you for trusting me to be apart of your genius.’

A friend to Luke Volker says that the two were engaged and some social media posts appear to confirm this.
