Newcastle first met Everton’s Anthony Gordon, but the Merseyside club are unwilling to sell.
Newcastle are looking to add players to their squad this summer and have identified Gordon as a target.
Sky Sports News he was told that Newcastle had not paid, instead it was a temporary inquiry into which he considered his options.
Everton, however, are determined to keep the 21-year-old, which makes it unlikely that Gordon’s contract will continue.
Reports indicate that £ 35m has been raised for the England U21 international player, who scored four goals last season.
Newcastle have other goals in the area, including Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby.
Tottenham were keen to sign twice from Everton along with Gordon and Richarlison, and eventually secured a £ 60m bid for the Brazilian when the Toffees refused to go home.
What’s going on with Diaby’s quest?
Newcastle United still retain interest in Bayer Leverkusen winner Moussa Diaby.
Diaby is one of the emerging players who is said to be considered for the club this summer.
There are rumors that there may be a difference between Newcastle’s plans to pay the 22-year-old French player and Leverkusen’s asking price.
Is the Newcastle Experiment drive over?
Newcastle are still keen to sign Reims midfielder Hugo Ekitiko but are also looking for more attacking goals after failing to negotiate with Ligue 1 club.
Reims head coach Oscar Garcia said Ekitiko told him he wanted to stay.
