Garmin is the leading brand in GPS game watches, followed by the likes of Suunto, Polar and Wahoo.
But what if you do not have hundreds of pounds to spend on the most recent type of ‘dressing’, yet still the idea of being able to monitor your health and fitness, receiving phone notifications and much more, on the go? Log in to Amazfit.
The Hong Kong brand offers similar functionality at low prices. Is this too good to be true?
Amazfit GTR 3 Pro smartwatch information and specifications
Amazfit’s advanced watches come in three forms – square-faced (GTS), ‘ruggedized’ (T-Rex) and round-faced (GTR), all with slightly different shapes.
If I had been tested with the Casio G-SHOCK-style T-Rex 2 – with a battery life of 24 days – it would have been much smaller than my thin arm. Instead, I went for a small GTR, which is very nice to do two jobs as a ‘daily driver’ for office use.
I tried the 3 Pro model – the most expensive Amazfit offering, but the cheapest one compared to the £ 700 + Garmin Fenix 7.
It looks smart, well-finished in the case and a sign of less strands on the string. At only 58g, it is lightweight and comfortable to wear. It is waterproof up to 50m, and I wear it for swimming without any problems.
You get full color display, 1.45in, 480x480p AMOLED. Navigation is via touchscreen with two (programmable) body buttons. It runs the parent company Zepp Health’s (formerly Huami) OS recently.
The app is not very refined, but I was able to connect it to my phone easily and slowly and turn my head around a lot of confusing lists.
Amazfit’s ‘BioTracker PPG 3.0’ optical biometric sensor monitors blood oxygen levels (helpful for those with difficulty breathing or ascending) as well as common metrics, such as heart rate, breathing, pressure and sleep.

Other built-in features include GPS (with the help of five main navigation systems), barometric altimeter, accelerometer, gyroscope, electronic compass and temperature sensor, plus music player.
Connect the watch to your phone via Bluetooth and you can call and receive calls, as well as monitor notes and other information. This is useful when riding because it means you do not have to carry in your pocket on your phone.
You can view weather forecasts or turn on Amazon Alexa word without internet. Through the Zepp mobile app, you can analyze your data, download clocks and much more.
The Amazfit GTR 3 Pro smartwatch works
One of the great features of the GTR 3 Pro is its 12-day battery life; This depends on what you support, but I found that its 450mAh battery can last up to a week on a single charge, Bluetooth connected all day and GPS was turned on several times.
Working is not as easy as the best clocks in his class.
The touch barrier does not respond at first. The display can be delayed by ‘waking up’ when you turn your hand and, while the GTR 3 Pro should automatically detect when you start cycling, I found that I often had to start the exercise instead.
You will no longer find a map or a walk. I found that the sleep guard is often disturbed that it is not moving at all, too, but it is a problem I have had with other smart watches.
In the right case, I was really impressed. Oxygen concentrations were always one-tenth lower than the oximeter.
The resting heart rate increased, but as it did, the GTR struggled to keep up with the spikes and dots.

There was a significant difference between data from the watch and the Garmin Edge 530 GPS bicycle with a seat belt (+/- 15bpm).
Again, this is a well-known case of light (hand) and not HR (chest) monitoring.
Amazfit GTR 3 Pro smartwatch bottom line
If you are looking for a dedicated fitness watch, it is best to look elsewhere.
But if you are interested in a smart watch and if you have the idea of receiving information while walking and being able to follow the beginnings of exercise, the GTR 3 Pro is worth considering.
