Russia’s gas monopoly Gazprom said on Friday that it had started to pump gas to Europe via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline after receiving written confirmation from Dutch authorities that the pipe was free of leaks, the Interfax news agency reported. The system of ground pipelines has been put into operation and gas deliveries have resumed, Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov told Interfax, adding that it was continuing to pump gas to Europe via its second main export route, Nord Stream 2, he said. Gazprom declined further comment.

According to Nord Stream 1, the operator of the important gas pipeline that runs from Russia to Germany, the company is currently resuming gas supplies to Europe.
It had been feared in Germany and elsewhere that the pipeline could be completely shut down once it was closed earlier this month for maintenance. Flows were expected to resume Thursday after the work was completed.
